Cable theft disrupts electricity supply in Voëlklip
Cable theft is once again disrupting services, with electrical overhead lines stolen in Voëlklip during the night/early morning. This left households in parts of 3rd and 4th Avenue and 4th and 5th Streets without electricity.
Overstrand Municipality’s Electricity Services is working to replace the stolen lines. At this stage, there is no estimated time of restoration.
Cable theft and vandalism of electrical infrastructure put additional pressure on municipal services and can have a knock-on effect on the local economy, especially for people working from home.
Residents, businesses and community organisations are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving the theft, tampering with or vandalism of electrical infrastructure to the Municipality via the Collab Citizen App, the Contact Centre on 028 313 8111, or Law Enforcement on 028 313 8996.
