Vermont Salt Pan
Birding wetland drawing hundreds of flamingos
The Vermont Salt Pan is a 17.5-hectare saline wetland in the suburb of Vermont, reached by turning off the R43 into Vermont Avenue. It draws prolific birdlife, including flocks of over 600 flamingos for up to six months of the year, with a milkwood woodland thicket on its eastern edge. The pan is looked after by the Vermont Conservation Foundation.
