Hermanus Animal Hospital (branded hermanusvet.co.za) is the oldest veterinary practice in the Overberg, started 40 years ago as part of Caledon Veterinary Hospital and now the largest animal hospital in Hermanus. Owned by Drs Michelle Lawrance and Greg Simpson, the practice covers general small-animal medicine (blood work, ultrasound, digital X-ray, ECG, biopsy/cytology) through to elective and emergency surgery — sterilisations, soft-tissue and orthopaedic work, fracture repair, hip replacement, tumour removal — plus reproduction/fertility services, acupuncture, post-surgical physiotherapy, free puppy socialising classes and behavioural consultations. Dogs, cats, birds, horses, exotics and the occasional farm animal are all seen, with house calls for large/production animals and a portable digital X-ray unit for on-farm work.
The team is Dr Michelle Lawrance (owner, 20+ years, special interest in surgery), Dr Greg Simpson (owner, PhD in infectious diseases, a conservation and education focus), Dr Dirk Greyling (small-animal surgery, ophthalmology and avian care) and Dr Clarise Viljoen. The practice also runs the Hermanus & Overberg Community Veterinary Clinic, a non-profit for owners who can't afford vet care, and has a smaller branch in Onrus at The Trading Post plus sister practices in Grabouw and Villiersdorp.
