Creation Wines was established in 2002 by Swiss winemaker Jean-Claude Martin and his South African wife Carolyn (née Finlayson, granddaughter of Hartenberg's Maurice and Eleanor Finlayson), on 35 previously-unplanted hectares on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge. JC comes from a Swiss winemaking family dating to 1935; first grapes were harvested in 2006, the cellar completed the same year, and the tasting room opened in November 2008. The single-vineyard, terroir-driven range runs from Estate and Reserve tiers to the flagship "Art of Chardonnay" and "Art of Pinot Noir," plus Rhône varietals — Syrah, Grenache, Viognier, Roussanne. Creation has ranked in the World's Best Vineyards Top Ten and No. 1 in Africa, known for its Riedel glassware and knowledgeable, attentive team.
