Bouchard Finlayson
Pioneer of South African Pinot Noir — currently pouring from a pop-up in Hermanus town
Closed Opens tomorrow at 10:00
Bouchard Finlayson was founded in 1989 by Paul Bouchard, of the Burgundian Bouchard Aîné et Fils wine family, and Peter Finlayson, founding cellarmaster of Hamilton Russell from 1979-1990 and widely credited as the pioneer of South African Pinot Noir. First vintage 1991; the Tollman family bought the estate in 2000. Globally known for the flagship Galpin Peak and Tête de Cuvée Pinot Noirs, alongside Missionvale Chardonnay and Blanc de Mer, made today by winemaker Chris Albrecht. The 125-hectare farm keeps 100 hectares as a fynbos conservancy, with only 25 under vine.
The Hemel-en-Aarde Valley farm and tasting room are currently closed for redevelopment. In the meantime, tastings run from the "Pop-Up by Bouchard Finlayson" at Harbour Square in Hermanus town — the address and hours below are for the pop-up; check directly for the farm's reopening.
