Bartho Eksteen Wines
Estate wines named and labelled entirely in Afrikaans, in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley
Closed Opens tomorrow at 10:00
Bartho Eksteen has worked in wine since 1984 and won the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year award in 2010, going on to found the Diners Club Bartho Eksteen Wine Academy for young winemakers with his wife Suné. He's a member of the Cape Winemakers Guild, presenting his top wine — Vloekskoot, an oaked Sauvignon Blanc — at the Guild's annual auction. Known first for Sauvignon Blanc, the range also runs to an estate Pinot Noir (Fluister) and Rhône-style blends (Ouskool, Groepsdruk), all labelled exclusively in Afrikaans as an expression of authenticity. The estate — formerly Attaquaskloof — sits on the Onrus River, a few kilometres from the Atlantic; the logo's abalone shell nods to Hermanus's abalone industry.
